Le marais, The Marsh by Jill Hackney, jeudi, 23. mars 2017, 1670 Lobdell Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70806-8247, United States

Louisiana resident Jill Hackney, celebrates 20 years of representation at Ann Connelly Fine Art. Hackney grew up in New Orleans, attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) and then went on to study painting and drawing at Louisiana State University where she earned her BFA. Hackney’s work begins with photography, catching a serendipitous moment in nature and bringing those images back to the studio to interpret through her paints, “I strive to compose a vignette with a sense of a broader environment and a harmony of positive and negative space”. The process begins with linear brush strokes and building depth with each layer applied. The layers build up lines of different colors, expressing the layers of light that wash across the image. Hackney’s newest series “le marais” (French for “the marsh”) highlights the surreal beauty of our native wetlands. The artist illuminates hanging moss, the dancing reflections in the black waters, and the subtle bursts of color hidden within the dense fauna. Hackney describes her work as “… often evoking a feeling of nostalgia, like watching the rain on a window pane or feeling the sunlight on a summer evening.”
Ann Connelly Fine Art is excited to open our new gallery (1670 Lobdell Ave.) with a solo exhibition “The Marais” by Jill Hackney. Please join us for an opening reception on Thursday, March 23rd from 5:30-7:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.
